Thurles Greyhound Stadium undergone extensive refurbishment and is now open for business with significantly enhanced facilities.

The fantastic stadium, which has played host to many great evenings of greyhound racing down through the years, is generally regarded as one of the finest of it’s kind in the country. And, the foresight and determination of the Board of Directors to ensure that it remains in that esteem, led them to reconsider the layout of the facilities taking into account their abilities to cater for parties, weddings, celebrations and of course those all important night at the dogs events.

With this in mind the architects were invited to re-draw the footprint of the stadium and they proposed an extension of the bar area upstairs, the inclusion of a small dance floor and the provision of a cold room amongst the many additions and changes to the premises.

The results have been very impressive indeed and the contractors - Darwin Construction of Cork - are to be complimented for the manner in which they undertook and carried out the operation.

Thurles Greyhound Stadium has remained true to it’s original function from day one - to provide top class facilities for greyhound racing and a platform for trainers and dog owners to showcase their dogs and pit them against the best in a distinguished field.

Despite the many changes that have taken place at the Castlemeadows facility down through the years, that ethos has remained the same and while catering for the needs of the ‘ doggy people’ has been a priority, it also became evident that a corporate element needed to be introduced to modernise the approach to greyhound racing and enhance the comfort for race goers. This need was catered for also and for those who wished to have the occasional flutter, the up-graded betting and tote facilities proved to be a real winner.

Very many clubs and facilities are in existence today because of funds raised in Thurles Greyhound Stadium at Charity Dog Nights and many other ventures which have yielded great dividends. The plan now is that the facilities will be thrown up to the public again for such ventures and for the likes of birthday celebrations, 21st parties, weddings, First Communions and functions off all kinds. With a top class restaurant and now an enhanced and more comfortable bar area, Thurles Greyhound Stadium could be the place for you to plan your big event.
