Co SHC Round 2
Four points in the closing minutes got champions, Drom-Inch through to the third round of the county senior hurling championship, but not before they endured “a roasting” from a fiercely committed Moneygall outfit at Borrisoleigh on Sunday.
This was a cracking, full-blooded game, with Moneygall showing little respect for the county champions as they got stuck in from the very beginning. Referee Fergal Horgan had his hands full keeping control with a further flare-up at the end when a number of players were fortunate not to have to take “the long walk”.
Following their poor showing in the Mid semi-final a week previously when losing to Loughmore-Castleiney, Drom-Inch needed a win to restore confidence but if they thought that Moneygall would be a “soft touch”, they were in for a surprise. The North side, unlucky not to figure in the closing stages in the divisional championship, played fast, aggressive hurling, defending in depth and surging forward when in possession.
It took Drom-Inch some time to come to terms with the situation but by then, Moneygall’s tails were up following a 5th minute goal from Eoin Ryan after Paddy Fanning created the chance, followed quickly by a Gerry Kirwan point. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full report.
