County Tipperary Senior Hurling Semi-Final
Thurles Sarsfields 2-22 Éire Óg Annacarty 1-13
Following a mixed display in the opening half Thurles Sarsfields thundered to a twelve-point win over Éire Óg Annacarty at Semple Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
An enterprising Éire Óg side had trouble Sarsfields during the opening half and could count themselves unfortunate to trail 0-10 to 1-11 at the break, but there was no disputing the superior side once Thurles got going.
Ultimately the combination of David Kennedy, Michael Cahill and, of course, Pádraic Maher represented an half-back obstacle that Éire Óg Annacarty could not penetrate nor hurl their way around. Éire Óg certainly enjoyed a better time of it in the opening half with the wind at their backs, but once the wind came into play after the break Sarsfields were coming onto the ball thereafter and held their opponents scoreless for a staggering twenty-four minutes of the second half. During this devastating period Thurles belted home 1-10 without reply.
For Thurles, a side eager to wrestle Dan Breen away from Drom & Inch next Sunday, Pádraic Maher, Denis Maher and Lar Corbett were outstanding. Corbett was in terrific form throughout this contest. Corbett scored four points from play and fired out some terrific passes while also proving an able target for Paddy McCormack under the dropping ball. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full report.
