Mid Board Secretary Jonathan Cullen suggests in his annual report to Convention that Tipperary folk should not be getting too excited about the Premier’s victory in the All-Ireland hurling final.
Congratulating the side, the Loughmore Castleiney clubman suggests in his comments that winning a Munster and All-Ireland Final with just three games is hardly something to be getting excited about.
“Tipperary’s only silverware come in the form of the Intermediate hurlers who won a Munster “Championship” by winning two games and an “All Ireland Championship” by winning one game. This, in my book, is nothing to be getting excited about. I have in the past, and I will continue, to question the benefits of participating in what can only be described as a glorified tournament. You could count on one hand the number of players who have progressed from playing on county Intermediate teams to the senior panel, so there would appear to be little or no material benefit what so ever,” he said.
The Secretary’s brutally honest assessment of the scenario is likely to generate much comment at the Convention, especially since there was a very strong Mid representation on the back-to-back winning sides, including his own clubmate Eddie Connolly as captain in 2012.
This and much more will be discussed at the Convention in Killea - a first for the club to host the event - on Friday evening next.
There no motions down for discussion.
