The final of the Thurles Fresh Tipperary Cup Final,the feature event on the Thurles calendar was run off last Sunday night off in front of a large crowd on a fine night. This event which has a winners prize of E8200 and a prizefund of over E15000 attracted a top class entry with most of the fancied runners making the decider. The final was won by Glideaway Ace [ Ace Hi Rumble – Darkies Fergus] owned by Jimmy Ferncombe and Clive Taylor and trained by Peter Cronin. Who came from behind long time leader Coolard Chief to take victory by the minimum distance.After a fairly level break Coolard took it up going into the bend and led on the back straight from Glideaway who came with a storming late run on the home stretch to win by a short head in 28.75 with Castlelyons Ralf another two lengths back in third place.The Tipperary Cup was presented by Phil O Dwyer Chairman of Thurles Fresh Milk.
Race one The opening race was won by Albrt Beardsleys Riada Lauryn [ Kilahan Phanter – Pony Plan] who clocked a good 28.99. The winner led from traps and was always holding the late challenge of Jokeisonme by two lengths with Bandicoot Mariah another hale length back in third place.The winner was making it five career wins
Race Two Jack Molloys Lough Moskova [Westmead Hawk –Lough Sheedagh] came from behind to take the second race the A3 600yd final kindly sponsored by Marie Thompson.Here Home Tiger took it on the run to the bend and led to the last bend where the winner came through to win by a short head from a fast finishing Porter Bob in 33.25 with the long time leader Home Tiger another length back in third place.
Race three The S6 /S7 sprint sponsored by the Track Supporters Club was won by Patsy Richardsons Definate Impace[Royal Impact –Josiva] who got a flier from trap four and was never headed. Bills Hero challenged the winner to the line but could never get on terms and he crossed the line two lengths clear in 19.65 with Kelseys Nan another length and a half back in third place.
Race four The fourth race on the card resulted in a thirteenth win for Kerryroad Baba who came from what looked like an impossible position on the back straight when well in arrears of long time leader Maries Westmead to get up on the line to win by a half length from Maries with racenight Meg another three and a half lengths back in third place.The time here was 42.51 for the 750yds.
Race five The fifth race was won by Tom Lennons Lemon Belle [ Wheres Pedro – Lemon Rita] who came from behind to win.here Bid Me Again made the early running and led to the home stretch where the winner came with a storming late run and got up to win by a length from Bid Me Again in 29.06 with Tarsna Sal another length back in third place.The winner was making it three career wins.
Race six Parchments Pal [Droopys Maldini – Gaytime Tia ] owned by Dermot Lehane took the sixth race on the card the open sprint in a good 19.50.Here the favourite Hypnosis looked to have matters in hand when clear going into the bend but the winner came through entering the home stretch and went away to score by a length and a half from Ballyknock Hawk with Hypnosis another half length back in third place.
Race seven The marathon was won by the Derek Kehoe trained Slaneyside Havoc [Head Bound – Maru Blue] owned by Sean O Neill and Caran Hehir who came from a long was back to score . Well behind when passing the stands the first time the winner took it up entering the back straight for the second time and went on to hold off the persistent challenge of Gimme Lucy by three lengths in 60.46 with another eight lengths back in third place.The winner was making it eighteen career wins.
Race seven The open 600yd event was won by the Brian King trained Shelbourne Nat [Collision – Shelbourne Judy ] who led from trap to line. Opeing a good lead on the back straight the winner went away to score by seven lengths from Stuck In Reverse in 33.00 with Miss Faustina another two lengths back in third place. The winner is owned by John Marks.
Race ten The last race on the card was won by Eamon Lloyds Knockroe Castle [ Big Daddy Cool – Knockroe Maxi] who clocked a very fast 28.84 .Going clear from trap six on the run to the bend the winner crossed the line two and a half lengths clear of Bantiss Sonia with Beat The Cats another short head back in third place.The winner was making it twelve wins.
