Stack Maintains Winning Run At Tipperary
The High Chaparral gelding Parkers Mill which was a winner over the course and distance almost a year and a half earlier but has been expensive to follow since put his best foot forward when just getting the better of the Dermot Weld runner Taameer in a head bobbing finish under a tremendous ride from Wayne Lordan.
Sporting the colours of the trainers daughter-in law Lucy the four year old was free enough early on but Lordan anchored him well just off the leaders, he improved nicely to be in contention at the two furlong marker. At this point the favourite and long time leader Unanimous still held the call but any one of three horses could be called the winner. Unanimous finally gave was well inside the final furlong as Lordan drove his mount into the lead but the combination had to survive a hectic late challenge from Taameer before shading the verdict by a short head. The latter looked to a trifle unlucky as he was caught in a pocket on the rail before finally seeing daylight 100 yards out and would have won in another stride or so. In his post race remarks Fozzy Stack conceded that the winner has been somewhat frustrating, he is not short of ability and after another outing on the level will go hurdling.
