County Senior Hurling Championship Quarter-Final
Loughmore/Castleiney 0-22 Mullinahone 2-11
They were behind by 4 points on four occasions in the first half but once they took the lead for the first time 6 minutes into the second half there was no stopping Loughmore/Castleiney in Saturday evening’s County Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final at Semple Stadium.
County star Noel McGrath, who was one of their best players, gave Loughmore that precious advantage in the 36th minute and it was a lead they never subsequently surrendered. Mullinahone stayed in contention until the closing stages, thanks mainly to the efforts of county players Eoin Kelly and Paul Curran, as well as Edwin O’Meara, although Loughmore - who also had fine performances from John McGrath, Liam Treacy, John Meagher and Evan Sweeney - were good value for their win.
Mullinahone started strongly and raced into a 4-point lead within 6 minutes. Eoin Kelly scored 3 of those points from frees and the other came from Sean Curran after a great solo through the Loughmore defence. Willie Eviston opened Loughmore’s account in the 8th minute, only for Eoin Kelly to reply from a free two minutes later. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full story.
