Aherlow fall to Boherbue in Munster



Boherbue, Cork 3-6


Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock was the venue for a thrilling Munster Club Intermediate Championship Final between Aherlow, Tipperary and Boherbue, Cork on Sunday last. Aherlow after their victory in the Tipperary Intermediate Final faced some stiff competition to ensure a place in the Munster Championship Final thanks to hard earned victories over Scartaglin, Kerry and Mungret St. Paul’s, Limerick.

From the throw-in the game began at a very fast pace and within the first minute Shauna Kelly, Boherbue scored the first point of the game. Edel Hanley replied with a point from a free within the next minute but from the kick out Julie Dennehy, Boherbue scored another point. Edel Hanley in the sixth minute added another point from a free to the score line but Julie Dennehy, Boherbue replied this time with a goal. Claire O’Connor, Boherbue netted the ball twice in the next ten minutes to widen the gap to eight points while Áinne Staunton, Aherlow scored their only point in this period. Aherlow fought hard in the last remaining ten minutes of the first half. Edel Hanley narrowly missed a goal chance but the ball found the posts for a point. Edel scored the last two points of the first half to narrow the deficit to five points as the half time whistle blew. Boherbue 3-2 Aherlow 0-6.

The second half started with the same fast pace as the first half with both teams eager for the first score. Edel Hanley, Aherlow scored the first point from a free in the thirty fifth minute. Boherbue replied shortly after with a Julie Dennehy free. Aherlow continued to dominant for the next twenty minutes, scoring five unanswered points to draw level by the forty eighth minute. The next score of the game would be vital and both teams battled hard for the next eight minutes before Julie Dennehy, Boherbue got the next point. They would add a further two points to the score line before the final whistle blew. Boherbue 3-6 Aherlow 0-12.

Aherlow battled well but unfortunately, it was not their day. Congratulations to Edel Hanley on receiving the Player of the Match Award which was presented to her by Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Vice President, Mr Anthony O’Brien.

Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Association was in shock last week with the announcement of the passing of Mr Enda McDonnell, Munster Ladies Gaelic Football President and Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football PRO. Friends of Enda’s from all over Ireland and overseas came to pay their respects to him and his family during the week. Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football would like to thank all who those helped in any way.


Congratulations to Mairead Morrissey, Brian Borus on receiving South East September Sports Award. The award is in conjunction with Beat 102 103 and the Mount Wolseley Hotel Carlow. Mairead was nominated last week and there was a week of public voting to ensure her award. Thanks to all the supporters who took the time to vote for Mairead. Early next year the overall winner for 2013 will be announced and we wish Mairead the best of luck.


Tipperary Ladies Football will hold bucket collections in the next few weeks. Anyone who would like to help with the bucket collections can do so by contacting any County Board Officer. The following is a list of towns and dates: October 25th/26th – Thurles, Cahir, Templemore and Tipperary Town. November 15th – Carrick on Suir and Cashel; November 16th – Clonmel, Roscrea and Cashel


Congratulations to Colaiste Dun Iascaigh, Cahir on their victory over St. Mary’s, Macroom last Friday in the Munster Junior A Post Primary School Competition.


Tipperary GAA is holding a Tipptoberfest in the Arena in Clonmel Park Hotel from Friday 25th to Monday 28th October. It will commence on Friday night with the Tipp Fight night featuring two representatives from Tipperary Ladies Football; Irene Codd, Moyle Rovers and Carmel Condon, Brian Borus. We wish the girls the best of luck. Tickets purchased in advance cost €20 while those purchased on the night cost €25.
