Pride of place this week must certainly go to the senior girl’s Camogie team of Our Lady’s Secondary School, Templemore on their comprehensive victory in the All-Ireland B Final last Saturday in Nenagh against Connaught champions St Calasanctus from Oranmore in Galway. A great day for the school, the parish, and all the clubs who provided players on this team. Hopefully this will be the first of many and the start of a proud tradition of Camogie in the school. Well done to all involved.
Senior Hurling: Our Senior Hurlers continued on their winning way when they overcame Carrick Swans in Round 2 of the Co. Challenge Cup on Sunday last. With a late throw in of 4:30pm to enable patrons of the big games in the Stadium to get back in time we were hoping this wouldn’t go to extra time like the previous Sunday’s encounter.
The late start coupled with dreary weather conditions meant poor lighting and there was concern at one stage whether this game would actually finish. But finish it did with Brackens leading from start to finish in what was a fine team performance to advance to the next round. Shane Scully, Aidan Fogarty picked up where they left off last weekend with the evergreen Eamon Corcoran again a tower of strength at No 6. Jordan Moloney in only his second start at senior grade was also one to impress and showed that he has the potential to excel at this level. So Brackens Senior hurlers win again on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-10.
