Kingfisher Swim Clubs schools success
On Sunday, 15th December, 18 of our members travelled to Limerick to represent their schools in the Munster Schools Championships.
It was a tough competition but all Kingfisher swimmers did extremely well on the day. The senior swimmers were first up in the morning. Each had two events. Many of them got to the final in their events with Cillian O’Gorman (CBS, Thurles) winning gold (100m breast stroke) and silver (100m butterfly) in his events. Cillian was up against very tough competition but a brilliant swim saw him qualify to represent the CBS, Thurles in the All Ireland Schools Championships in May in the National Aquatic Centre. His excellent time also saw him selected for the Munster Relay team at the All Ireland finals.
The CBS, Thurles also did well in the 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley relays and brought home bronze medals in both events for the school. Well done to Darren O’Sullivan, Declan Rooney, James Symons and Sean Fanning. Swimmers on the day were: CBS, Thurles: Cillian O’Gorman, Dean Cooke, Darren O’Sullivan, James Symons, Declan Rooney, Sean Fanning and David Mawe. These three gutsy swimmers will now go on to represent their schools in the All Ireland finals in February in the National Aquatic Centre. On the 7th December, some of our Minnows (younger members) travelled to UL for the Limerick Novice Gala. It was the first gala for most of the swimmers and again all had a great days swimming and brought home a total of 13 medals on the day. Well done to all of you.
