All roads lead to Littleton this Saturday evening when Third Division Cashel Town reserves take on Fourth Division Slieveardagh United in the first of a hectic run of Cups for the TSDL.
Slieveardagh are a newly formed club and this will be their first tilt at silverware after faltering in their promotion bid from the bottom rung.
But after Cashel Town’s relegation to that tier was confirmed last weekend, form shows that league placements will be no guide to how the game is likely to pan out.
Is it ever any different in a Cup final? And, if anything, both teams seem to have reserved their best form for the knockout competitions, as they both beat higher ranked opposition along the way to Saturday’s showdown.
Cashel Town have had problems defensively (they lost 9-0 last Sunday) which has cost them, but still maintain a very good strike force with Michael Mackey always a danger to the opposition, while the Ivors of Ballingarry have been finding the net on a regular basis themselves.
The final therefore is likely to be an open affair and this will suit what is sure to be a large travelling crowd, as both clubs have a dedicated cohort of supporters who will want to make sure their boys know they are behind them.
The game kicks off in Newhill Park at 6pm and if you have a few hours to spare Saturday evening, it’ll be well worth catching.
The officials on duty for the cup final are B. Feery, J. Teehan and T. Maher.
