Three budding Katie Taylors from Clonmel Boxing Club competed with great distinction at the recent National Girls Championships held in the National Staduim, Dublin.
Nora Doyle, Kayleigh O’Donnell and Karen Connolly all reached the final of their respective weight divisions, with Nora Doyle taking the gold medal and the Irish title after an excellent win in the final against Nicola McCann, St. John Bosco, Belfast by 25 points to 10.
Kayleigh O’ Donnell gave her all in her final against Jane Carty, Ballyshannon but lost out by 22 points to 16.
In her first contest Karen Connolly gave a great performance before narrowly losing out to Katelyn Doran, St. Brigid’s, Kildare by 24 points to 19. Ladies boxing is growing fast in Ireland, with over 200 entries for these championships and it’s also thriving in the Clonmel club, much of which is due to Irish World Champion and Olympian Katie Taylor.
