Pitch and Putt

Paddy Power Memorial Scratch Cup

The first O’Sullivan Insurance Paddy Power Memorial Scratch Cup took place recently. Thanks are extended to John O’Sullivan of O’Sullivan Insurances, Clonmel, for their generous sponsorship. The weather on the day was great and the turnout was also great, with 105 players playing, what a fantastic tribute to Paddy Power. The final 18 play-off was fantastic with Joe Hickey starting with 4 birdies in 4 holes to draw level with James Cleary and Eddie Hennessy on 13 under. Noel Joyce was 1 shot back on 12. James started with a 4 but followed with 4 birdies in a row. Noel got 2 of the first 3 but followed with a 4. Eddie only got 1. After 9 holes of the play-off James was 17 under, with Noel and Eddie on 15. Oisin Ryan was in 4th on 14 under. With 3 holes to play Oisin Ryan was 15 under, Eddie Hennessy was 18 under, James Cleary was 19 under and Noel Joyce was also 19 under. Oisin Ryan finished 15 under for 4th place, Eddie Hennessy finished 19 under for 3rd place, James Cleary finished 20 under to take 2nd after missing a putt on the last to force a play-off with Noel Joyce who was on 21 under but it was not to be. The results were as follows: Overall Winner Noel Joyce (Hillview), Overall Runner-up James Cleary (Hillview), Overall Third Eddie Hennessy (Ashgrove), Overall fourth Oisin Ryan (Riverdale). The last 18 went to D. J. Lynch (Tipp Hills). The Gents Inter Winner was Shaun Ryan (Larkspur Park), Runner-up was Darragh O’Keeffe (Deerpark), The Junior Winner was Dylan Loughnane (Lakeside) and the Ladies Gross went to Breda Lonergan (Tipp Hills). Congratulations to all the winners. It was a much deserved and long overdue win for the comeback man Noel Joyce.
