Thurles Safsileds bridged a 25 year gap in the INtermediate hurling grade, while Burgess must wait to win their first ever North senior hurling title.
While Moyne Templetuohy were the fancied outfit going into the game, this Sarsfields side had been moving well throughout the season and were already qualified for the County quarter finals, as had their opponents.
But, Sarsfields were the more motivated side and though they had to stave off a rally from their opponents before securing victory, their experienced campaigners together with their younger guns, had enough to see them bridge the quarter of a century much to the delight of their supporters in the splendid Holycross venue.
The Hibernian Inn North senior hurling Final ended all square with Nenagh Eire Og and Burgess having to do it all again, next weekend.
Burgess seemed on course to win their first ever North Final until the final moments when substitute Paul Ryan fired in a fine goal to share the spoils and put the Burgess celebrations on hold.
The game ended in high drama much to the delight of a fine attendance at MacDonagh Park and the Board is set for a bumper day again next weekend when the replay will draw as big an attendance, if not not bigger, to the same venue.
