The Sports Institute Northern Ireland (SINI) invited Sporting Chance over to Northern Ireland to raise awareness of the positive work Sporting Chance do to support professional and amateur sports people.
SINI is responsible for delivering high-level support to Northern Ireland’s best athletes and top coaches and has coordinated the visit and arranged for talks between Sporting Chance and representatives from Ulster Rugby, the IFA, GAA, SINI staff and Sport Northern Ireland.
Des Jennings, Head of Performance Skills at SINI had this to say about the visit,
“SINI recognizes the importance of athlete welfare, especially in mental health and addictive disorders. We invited Sporting Chance to Northern Ireland to lead some conversations on how best to support local athletes and raise awareness amongst sports professionals of potential warning signs.”
Part of the Sporting Chance delegation to visit Northern Ireland was former Northern Ireland and Manchester City footballer Jeff Whitley who has battled with addiction.
