Good year for Community Games

Gold, silver and bronze for Tipperary

Good year for Community Games

The curtain has come down on another highly successful year for County Tipperary Community Games despite numbers falling in some of the events which was disappointing.

However there was quality rather than quantity which resulted in Tipperary winning eight Munster titles and were silver medallists in nine other team events on a wonderful day in UL where the host county Tipperary did a super job.

At the National Finals in Athlone, Tipperary won Gold medals in nine events, Silver in ten, Bronze in 15 and Pewter in eleven different activities.

At the county athletics finals, Carrick-on -Suir had the biggest medal haul with gold in nine individual events, silver in four and bronze in one along with winning the u10 mixed relay and becoming the first winners of the Breeda Christie perpetual shield.

Gold also in u14 girls relay and u15 mixed relay and silver in u12 girls relay. Fethard/Killusty u14 girls GAA team became the first winners of the Joan O’Connor, perpetual shield at the county finals in Semple Stadium. The GAA finals also produced some epic games despite horrible weather conditions.

Cashel Rosegreen area won the award for the best overall area for the second successive year. Well done to Polly Murphy and her team of volunteers.

Mary Walsh, Ss Peter & Paul’s won the adult volunteer award.

Carole Hogan, St Flannan’s won both County and Munster youth volunteer awards
