A large crowd turned out McGrath’s in Puckane for the launch of Kiladangan’s Cycling Challenge 2016. Following a successful event in 2015 the club has decided to embark on a more ambitious project for 2016. 'We have had an unbelievable response to this event last year from our club members, from the wider community around North Tipperary and beyond and from the cycling fraternity’ said Micheal Ryan, chairperson of Kiladangan GAA Club. ‘The plans for the event are well advanced and we are confident we have a super product on offer on April 10th’ he added.
Proceedings opened with event organiser Paul Fogarty welcoming all to present and outline the background to the event. Michael Ryan then presented the clubs capital plans going forward with an exciting 3D model of the plans for development at Kiladangan’s GAA grounds. Paul Fogarty then explained the cycle routes and event details, he thanked Nenagh Cycling Club and North Tipperary Wheelers for their advice and support for the project. He went on to outline the funding strands for the event, ‘the key to the success of this event is the 30 cycling teams led by people from the parish. The commitment of the Team Leaders to the project is what ensures the success of this event. It is amazing and refreshing to witness first hand the generosity and willingness of people to participate in the development of their locality’ Paul commented.
There has been a long tradition in Kiladangan GAA club when embarking on fundraising projects to look to other voluntary organisations who are working for the betterment of families and communities. With this project Kiladangan have partnered with Pieta House, who provide services to people who are challenged by every day life. John Tougher from Pieta House addressed the launch and thanked Kiladangan for their support to Pieta House. In wishing the project well he outlined the type of challenges Pieta House face in providing their services.
Local councillor Joe Hannigan was on hand to carry out the official launch. Kiladangan Cycling Challenge will take place on Sunday 10th of April 2016. The event will have five different routes, from 10km to 120km, all starting and finishing in Puckane with something for all levels of cyclists.
