Ballyhoura Active

With our first race in the Ballyhoura Active Series out of the way, We went to Mallow this weekend to support Mallow AC with their 10 mile road race with over 1400 runners signed up it was shaping up to be a fantastic day.

The weather was perfect cold and dry with no wind to speak of, couldn’t be better.

This event is so professionally run with nothing left to chance. Unfortunately as we headed into the second mile we heard a ferrous bang from above us, as a tragic accident took place on the motorway. The race was stopped a few minutes later as the scale of this tragic accident unfolded.

Well done to Mallow AC on their swift action in handling the situation as one of the lead runners was a doctor and one of the lads in lead car personnel was a paramedic both of them attended the scene. The stewards ushered runners off the motorway and back to race headquarters. Again well done to Mallow AC for their swift action and fair play to all the runners who sacrificed their race as their tough’s were with the victims of this tragic accident.

Mallow AC will have a meeting to discuss their options in relation to the cancellation of the race and will inform everyone of their decision in due course.

The next event that we have is the Ballyhoura Mountain Marathon on 30th of April for registration go to the IMRA website.

If you are interested in joining us be in Kilfinane for 9am in the Church car park.
