The weather for the weekend was terrible rain hail and Snow, so lots of events were cancelled. But the true grit of the runner came to the fore as the Limerick county championships went ahead in spite of the weather. Not only did it go ahead but a record number turned out. So if you sat at home and looked out at the rain as it lashed against your window spare a taught for those who are truly dedicated. Everyone wants to challenge themselves and for those who go out in bad conditions it can sometimes be as close as we will get to a major challenge like climbing Everest, and the sense of adventure and fulfilment can be enormous from doing one of these events. So well done to all who got out on Sunday.
If you are after adventure then the weekend ahead is the place to start Scoil Pol in Kilfinane will hold a 35km and a 60 km Cycle on Saturday reg from 10 am at the school. The 35km is for people who are just starting out and have done similar events, and the 60km is for the more advanced cyclist who can cycle at a good strong pace. This event is to raise funds and will be paced so they will be cycling as a group.
There is also a 5k fun run and family race, after there will be a Barbecue at the School and varies events including Penalty kicks, Face painting, bouncy castles and loads more for the family.
Keep in mind the Ballyhoura Mountain Marathon is on Saturday the 30th April which consists of a 13mile Trail run/Half Marathon, a full marathon on the trails and mountains and an Ultra Marathon for those super fit athletes each participant will receive a race T-shirt, a special race Mug, a two course meal and a goody bag. The race is chip timed and there will be hot showers for all competitors after the race.
