GAA Stars to feature in 'Friends' Golf Classic

Tipperary GAA faithful at home and abroad are ready to turn out in great numbers to participate in the annual Mr Mister sponsored Friends of Tipperary Football Golf Classic on Friday August 5th, and Saturday August 6th next in Thurles Golf Club.

The highly-renowned Thurles course will be en fete for the classic regarded as one of the region's largest events on the busy sporting calendar next month. With the countdown on to the two day extravaganza the 'Friends' organising committee are busy finalising arrangements and are looking forward to a huge entry in keeping with the success of previous events.

Golfers all over the Premier County and indeed much further afield look forward each year to participating in the classic with very attractive prizes up for grabs. As usual many household GAA names in Tipperary and several other counties have offered their support to the classic. The organisers are particularly pleased that many former and current Tipp footballers and hurlers are among the teams entered for the competitions and look forward to many more stars of the past and present throwing their weight behind the worthy cause. Leading sports personalities from other counties are also expected to field teams in the classic.

With team entries priced at an attractive 120 euro little wonder interest in the classic is reported as "brisk" by its organisers. The 'Friends' also look forward to massive support in tee box sponsorship which is priced at 50 euro.

Intending participants in the classic, and those wishing to pledge tee box sponsorship are asked to contact the classic's chief organiser Martin O' Dwyer as soon as possible on (086) 2549154. As in the case of planning previous classics, Martin and his team have done trojan work in recent weeks, and Tipperary Football owes him and his 'Friends' committee a huge debt of gratitude. Martin and his colleagues are very appreciative of the huge support they have received from so many people in the lead up to the eagerly-awaited event, and extend a special word of thanks to all teams and sponsors, especially to the renowned Mr Mister Menswear, Cahir Cashel and Mitchelstown, once again the main sponsor of the classic.

The good fortunes of Tipperary Football has made the sporting headlines on a number of occasions in recent years, particularly after the seniors historic win over Cork in this year's Munster semi-final. The Friends of Tipperary Football are pulling out all the stops to ensure that at such a critical juncture in the history of Tipp football every financial support is available towards the preparation of teams in all grades.

Since its inception almost twenty years ago, the 'Friends' has contributed enormously through its various fundraising activities to supporting and developing the game in the county. The annual golf classic continues to be one of its main sources of income, and, the 'Friends' look forward to the ongoing support of the public on August 5th and 6th next.
