Tipperary school principal to be new Limerick hurling boss

Tipperary town school principal John Kiely is set to become the new Limerick senior hurling manager.

Kiely, principal at the Abbey CBS in Tipp, is to be ratified at a meeting of the County Board on Tuesay night.

He has already guided the Limerick u-21s to All Ireland glory in 2015 and will be expected to revive the fortunes of the county's seniors as the long wait for an All Ireland title continues.

Kiely succeeded John Heffernan as principal at the Abbey CBS where there is a tremendous tradition of Gaelic games, with success in both hurling and football.

Everyone in the community will wish him well in the new role - but maybe not at Tipperary's expense!
