Key games feature this week in the Tipperary senior and intermediate football championships

A number of key games feature in this week's round of the Tipperary Water-sponsored county senior and intermediate football championships. The link between the divisional and county championships is now severed. So, only the top two teams in each group will progress to the quarter-finals.

SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

GROUP ONE

Thanks to an eleven-point win (2-12 to 0-7) over Kilsheelan-Kilcash on Tuesday, September 4th at Leahy Park in Cashel Loughmore-Castleiney have topped group one of the Tipperary Water County Senior Football Championship. Prior to that contest both sides had four points and Kilsheelan-Kilcash will join Loughmore-Castleiney in the quarter-finals.

JK Bracken's and Drom & Inch were scheduled to battle it out to avoid the relegation play-offs on Saturday, September 8th (both had zero points), but Drom & Inch have since presented JK Bracken's with a walkover.

GROUP TWO

Moyle Rovers will be hotly fanced to maintain their 100% record when they face Galtee Rovers on Saturday, September 8th in Ardfinnan (6pm) while the meeting of Upperchurch-Drombane and Arravale Rovers on the same day in Dundrum (6pm) will determine which side joins the South men in the last eight. Right now Moyle Rovers top the group on four points, Arravale Rovers are second on two, Upperchurch-Drombane are third on two and Galtee Rovers have zero points.

GROUP THREE

Ballyporeen (four points) and Killenaule (four points) have the quarter-final berths sewn up in group three - the winner of their contest on Saturday, September 8th in Cahir (5.30pm) will determine the group winner. Meanwhile Kiladangan and Cahir (both on zero points) will meet on Sunday, September 9th in Holycross (6pm) hoping to avoid the relegation play-offs.

GROUP FOUR

Clonmel Commercials (six points) have topped group four - Éire Óg Annacarty (zero points) presented the defending champions with a walkover this week. Annacarty, by virtue of their head-to-head records, were already out of contention while the winner of Aherlow Gaels and Ardfinnan contest will also progress to the quarter-finals - Aherlow and Ardfinnan meet on Sunday, September 9th in Leahy Park, Cashel (3.30pm).

GROUP ONE

With a game to play Fethard (+4) top group one on three points, Grangemockler-Ballyneale (-) are second on two, Father Sheehy's (-3) are third on two and Clonmel Commercials (-1) are bottom on one. Anything is possible here with the final two games taking place on Saturday, September 8th: Clonmel Commercials v Fethard in Monroe (4pm) and Father Sheehy's v Grangemockler-Ballyneale in Ned Hall Park (6pm). The winner of both contests will progress to the quarter-finals.

GROUP TWO

Following two rounds of games Moyne-Templetuohy are top of group two on four points, Loughmore-Castleiney are second on two, Moyle Rovers are third on two and Moycarkey-Borris are bottom on zero.

In the final round of games on Friday, September 7th Moyle Rovers face Moyne-Templetuohy at New Inn (8pm) while Moycarkey-Borris take on Loughmore-Castleiney at Dr Morris Park, Thurles on Tuesday, September 11th (7.45pm).

Since Moycarkey-Borris gave a walkover during an earlier round in this group scoring difference can now not be used to determine final placings if three teams finish level on points.

So, if Loughmore-Castleiney and Moyle Rovers win their respective contests a three-way play-off will be required (three teams on four points).

Borrisokane (+19) lead the group on two points while Clonoulty-Rossmore (-) are second on one and Cashel King Cormacs (-19) are bottom on one.

Borrisokane and Clonoulty-Rossmore meet in the final group game on Saturday, September 8th at The Ragg (3pm). Borrisokane are safely through while a Clonoulty-Rossmore win or a defeat of less than nineteen points will secure them a place in the quarter-finals.

GROUP FOUR

Golden-Kilfeacle (+25) top group four on four points, Rockwell Rovers (+46) are second on three, Clonmel Óg (-7) are third on one and Carrick Swans (-64) are bottom on zero.

In the final round of games on Saturday, September 8th Rockwell Rovers take on Golden-Kilfeacle in Dundrum (4.30pm) while Carrick Swans face Clonmel Óg in Monroe (5.30pm).

Golden-Kilfeacle and Rockwell Rovers will battle it out for top spot in the group while Clonmel Óg require a huge win over Carrick Swans and for Golden-Kilfeacle to prevail in order to have any chance of making the quarter-finals.
