The late Denis Falahee
The death occurred on 14th August 2018 of Denny (Denis) Falahee, Roscrea Road, Templemore.
A native of Athea, Co. Limerick Denis was the youngest son of Peter and Mary Falahee. A staunch Limerick GAA supporter he would have taken great delight in their recent All-Ireland win.
He enjoyed a career in An Garda Siochana spanning 38 years, first arriving in Templemore in 1972 as a young recruit at the tender age of 19. He entered the gates of the Garda College alongside his friend and neighbour George Langan. He was later stationed in counties Waterford and Kilkenny returning to the Garda College in 1993 where he remained until he retired in 2010.
His retirement allowed him time to enjoy his pastimes which included perusing auctions for antiques and items to restore to their former beauty.
He was very much a spiritual man and enjoyed nothing better than a good philosophical debate, an area in which he had recently studied.
He was very active in the local community and took great pride in reading at the Dawn Mass in Templemore each Easter. He enjoyed writing articles on various topics and it was a source of great satisfaction for him when they were published.
Denis was very much a family man and is survived by his loving wife Breda, daughter Trish, son-in-law Niall, his grandsons Fionn and Fiachra, brother Eddie and sister Bridie along with extended family and friends. He idolised his grandchildren and very much upheld his earlier vow upon the death of their grandad Ger Deegan to be “two grandads” to them. They idolised him in return.
He overcame earlier struggles in his life with great dignity and helped a lot of others to overcome theirs.
He possessed a quick wit and enjoyed nothing more than a chat and exchanging banter with all he met including those young and old he encountered while driving a minibus for Johnstons.
He was a lot of different things to different people, but above all he was a great friend and will be sorely missed.
Denis was buried in his home parish of Athea in West Limerick following Funeral Mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Templemore.
