A busy few weekends ahead full of interesting events at this Tipp farmers market

Thurles farmers market share their contribution to heritage week

Tipperary Tipperary Tipperary

As we approach Heritage Week Thurles Farmers Market wanted to share some details with you about their contribution.

The week begins on August 17 and as usual for the remaining three Saturdays in August they will have a raffle in aid of Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre in Thurles.

Prizes include trailer loads of turf and firewood and a bottle of Baileys to mention a few. The team at Suir Haven will host an information stand at Saturday’s Market which runs from 9am until 12.30pm as usual at Thurles Greyhound Stadium.

On Saturday August 17 Eddie Kenehan will share the history of sugar in Thurles – the theme for Heritage week is Routes, Networks and Connections. The road and rail network were a key part of the Sugar industry locating in Thurles. Sadly, the factory in Cabragh closed in 1989 having operated since 1934.

On Saturday August 24 Aoife Barrett will be with us to give people a chance to learn about food production and to create a bag or card using printing techniques. Aoife is involved with a Children’s Community Garden project in Clonoulty and the title of her event is “The Crop, The Shop and The Table”.

We also hope to have some live animals, some vintage vehicles and some music during our Heritage Week events.

As usual we hope you will come to shop for the best in locally produced meats, vegetables, fruits, honey, juices and baked goods. We have a location that allows indoor or outdoor trading, every Saturday morning 9am to 12.30pm, and offers our customers plenty of free car parking – new traders welcome – call 087 270 1689.

The Café Chris Tea Coffee Truck is on site 7 days a week so it is a great point for walkers to meet – have a beverage (hot or cold) before or after your walk - plenty of outdoor seating available to sit and have a chat. We are on Instagram, Facebook and on Twitter @ThurlesM.
