Independent TD Michael Lowry arrives at Leinster House, Dublin
Independent TD for Tipperary Michael Lowry has said that the Dail was subject to “an orchestrated, coordinated campaign led by Sinn Fein and the opposition to disrupt and to block that process” to appoint a taoiseach.
“I’ve never seen such disrespect to any Ceann Comhairle in the history of the Dail and I’m here 40 years,” he told RTE’s Six One programme.
He said that TDs were told that a Dail Reform Committee would need to be formed to break the stalemate, and it could convene as early as Thursday, but that to form such a committee a government would need to be appointed.

He said the Regional Independent group would “cooperate fully with that” arrangement, and an agreement was reached at 3.30pm on that basis but was reneged upon by Sinn Fein, he claimed.
“Sinn Fein were unhappy with the time slots they had. Secondly, they were unhappy that the Dail would adjourn for two weeks.”
Asked why Mr Lowry cannot use government speaking time in the Dail, he said “I cannot do that”, suggesting that this was due to the regulations and the rules of the Dail.
