RIP: Tributes pour in for former Tipperary teacher who was 'incredible lady' following death

Tributes have been paid to a former Tipperary national school teacher and mother of three following her passing

Joan Quinn (née Quinn) of Roseboro, Tipperary Town passed away on Sunday, February 16.

A former teacher at Bansha NS, Joan is survived by her husband Mike, daughter Niamh, sons Darragh and Kevin, and her grandchildren Harry, Jeff, Anna, Eve, Oscar, Cian and Emma.

She is deeply regretted by her devoted and loving husband, daughter, sons, brothers Timothy and Dick, son-in-law Vinny, daughters-in-law Helen and Pia, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, lifelong and cherished neighbours and friends, according to her death notice on RIP.ie

Many have expressed their sympathies with Joan's family online, as well as sharing fond school memories from their time being taught or working alongside Joan.  

One mourner wrote on the condolences section of RIP.ie: “My deepest sympathy to Mike, Niamh, Darragh and Kevin, extended family and friends on the very sad passing of Joan. I taught with Joan for many years in Bansha NS and she was a wonderful friend and colleague. She was a beautiful, gentle lady and will be sadly missed by all. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí uirthi.”

A tribute from her former school, Bansha NS read: “Sincere condolences to Mike, Niamh, Kevin and Darragh on Joan's passing. She was a very special lady with such a kind heart and is warmly remembered by colleagues and students. She will be sadly missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dilís.”

A third tribute read: “Sincere condolences to all the Quinn families on the passing of Joan. Lovely childhood memories of a warm and kind teacher from infants up to second class when I was a pupil at Bansha old NS in the early 70s. Rest in Peace Miss Quinn.”

Joan will be reposing at Fogarty’s Funeral Home, Blind Street, Tipperary Town today, Thursday (February 20) from 6pm to 7.30pm. 

Joan’s Requiem Mass will take place at St. Michael’s Church, Tipperary Town, on Friday, at 12 noon with burial to follow in Kilfeacle Cemetery, Co. Tipperary.
