Club mates of GAA star Rachel Kenneally lined out in memory of the talented Tipperary footballer at an inter club tournament in the United Arab Emirates last week for a memorial event to mark her lasting legacy on her former Dubai GAA club.

Dubai Celts GAA kicked off their Autumn season with their first inter club tournament earlier this month with the winning team claiming the ‘The Rachel Kenneally Cup", kindly donated by the Kenneally family, in honour of their former club mate who passed away in March following a battle with cancer.

The tournament took place on Friday September 14, bringing together past and present Dubai Celts GAA members as well as several of Rachel’s former students in Dubai.

Thousands of mourners turned out to pay their respects to Kenneally from Ballyglass, Tipperary town, at her funeral in her home county earlier this year.

Kenneally, who proudly donned the GAA colours of her local club Aherlow, her college team in Mary Immaculate College, as well as her beloved county from 2009 to 2014, was a key member of the Dubai Celts squad while living in the United Arab Emirates where she worked as a teacher.

Kenneally was a member of the Tipperary side that lined out in the 2013 TG4 All-Ireland intermediate final against Cavan at Croke Park and also played in a National league Division 2 final in 2010. She was also a Munster minor B championship winner in 2009 and 2010, as Tipp went on to contest All-Ireland finals in both years.

At club level, Rachel appeared in the 2011 All-Ireland junior club final for Aherlow against Sperrin Óg, and she was a county and Munster winner with her club in that same year.

Rachel previously attended St Anne's Secondary School in Tipperary Town and graduated from Mary Immaculate College in 2013 with a degree in primary school teaching. She also featured on the Mary I league and championship winning squad of 2011-2012.
