Lyric FM documentary on Tipperary writer Dorothea Herbert (1760 - 1829) to be broadcast on Sunday

Writer, diarist, poet and artist Dorothea Herbert, who is the subject of the Lyric FM documentary

A radio documentary on the fascinating life of Carrick-on-Suir writer Dorothea Herbert, who lived between 1760 and 1829, will be broadcast on RTE Lyric FM this Sunday, February 19 at 6pm.

"Dorothea The Doozy" will examine the life and writings of the long overlooked Tipperary writer, diarist, poet and artist, who is is often compared with Jane Austen and wrote around the same time as the great English novelist. She lived at Knockgraffon, New Inn as well as Carrick-on-Suir where her father was a Church of Ireland rector at what is now Carrick-on-Suir Heritage Centre.

Scandalous affairs, romantic liaisons, fashion reports, crazy practical jokes and shocking stories of domestic violence against women in the upper classes are all there in her writings.

Her descriptions of an imaginary husband, a gender-fluid visitor, camp cousins and groping relatives paint a colourful unique picture of life in Tipperary in late 1700s.

The documentary, presented and produced by Angie Mezzetti, includes an interview with local Dorothea Herbert enthusiast Johnny Fitzpatrick while Tipperary actress Aideen Wylde portrays the vocie of Dorothea in extracts from her writings.

"Dorothea The Doozy" will be available as a podcast on the Lyric Feature after the broadcast on Sunday evening.
