Get creative this March at The Source

Why not get creative at The Source this March when a number of print workshops will be hosted by the arts centre in association with Blackstack Print Studios, Kilkenny.

Mono printing with Dawn West (Saturday-Sunday, March 5th-6th - 10am to 4.30 pm each day): A two-day workshop which will look at several different Monoprint techniques with the aim of introducing participants to the creative potential of this versatile medium. By the end of this workshop participants should have the skills and confidence to be able to experiment with their preferred Mono print processes and incorporate this, where applicable, into their existing work. The emphasis for the workshop is for participants to learn through doing. Ages: 13-plus and adults. Admission: €25 per person. Maximum: six participants.

The Zine - instructions on self-publication with Stephen Morton (Saturday, March 26th - two workshops - 11am to 1pm & 2pm to 4pm): subversive provocateur and artist Stephen Morton will provide a guide to self-publication and distribution through digital (videos, PDFs and online shops) and physical media (pamphlets, zines, posters and stickers). Ages: 16-20. Admission: €10 per person. Maximum: ten participants.

Water-based screen print workshop with Aiseling Noone (Saturday-Sunday, April 2nd-3rd - 11am to 4pm each day): What is a screen print? Screen printing is a chosen image stencilled onto a mesh screen in a frame and the printmaker pushes ink with a squeegee through the open mesh of the image and so transfers the design onto the paper. The screen printing process enables the artist to reproduce the image repeatedly and in many different colour combinations.

This workshop will allow the learners to sample the method of screen printing and using pre- prepared stencils, experiment with cut-out paper stencils, apply it to a screen and print and edition their work.

Ages: 13-plus and adults. Admission €25 per person. Maximum: six participants.

Relief Printing with John Busher (Saturday, April 16th - 2pm to 4pm): Using a variety of found objects children will make a relief print, which explores positive and negative space, colour, and shapes based on the theme of memory. In this workshop participants will draw from personal experience, referencing the artists work and the art movement neo-expressionism. Objects will be used to explore the possibilities of mark making, while layering additional colour in relief form.

Ages: eight to 12-year-olds. Admission: €10. Maximum: 15 participants.
