St Patrick's Day Parade

Thurles's St. Patrick's Day Parade is just around the corner to take place on Thursday the 17th March 2016 at 4p.m. from Abbey Road, Thurles.

The committee are inviting entrants to mark the occasion in a special commemorative fashion, celebrating 2016 as it is the Centenary Year of the 1916 Easter Rising.

We asking that participants combine the Patron Saints national day with the 2016 centenary celebrations and incorporate the St. Patrick theme with elements of the Easter Rising.

There will be a number of attractions, consisting of marching bands, the Jim O'The Mills traditional group will play in the centre of Liberty Square and the Thurles Silver Band will give a rendition of Irish classics from the bandstand in the new Towns Park prior to the parade.

For the children and adults there will be the reptile zoo located in the lower square, where all can get really close to snakes and lizards, so close you can actually touch and feel them.

The miniature train will also make an apperarance in the town to give children and adults alike a trip around Liberty Square.

There will be face painting available to decorate the little ones in animal guises and national colours.

This year aslo we will have a special commemorative medal for the young participants with the 1916/2016 logo, someting to treasure into the future.

In addition the Upperchurch climbing wall club will have a demonstration on display in the Ulster carpark along with an impressive selection of beautifully and lovingly restored vintage vehicles from the Tipperary Vintage Association.

We are inviting all shops to enter the Best Dressed Shop Window Display for 2016 incorporating the 1916 centenary remembrance. This year we have added 2 new categories in the runner-up section.

The categories are:

Best Dressed Window, Runner-Up Best Dressed Window, Best Traditional Window and Runner-Up Traditional Window.

In the parade proper we have added a special prize to commemorate the 1916 Cenetenary, this award is the Best 1916 Commemoration Plaque plus a €250 award.
