The Tipperary Excel' Discovers Jane Austen' on Saturday, March 5th.
This event is dedicated to exploring the life, times and work of Jane Austen who, as we know, created some of literature's most-celebrated characters and worked to define her era, sex and class.
The day-long programme will be as follows;
At 12pm: an 'Insight into Jane Austen' in the Tipperary Excel Art Gallery (tickets €10).
At 1pm: afternoon tea Jane Austen-style will be served in The French Quarter Café at the Tipperary Excel (tickets €5).
At 2pm: a workshop on ballroom dancing from the Jane Austen period in the Tipperary Excel Dance Studio (tickets €10).
At 4pm: the Tipperary Excel Cinema 2 will host a screening of 'Pride & Prejudice', a film starring Keira Knightley (tickets €10).
At 8pm: the play 'Austen’s Women' will be performed in the Simon Ryan Theatre at the Tipperary Excel (tickets €15). This performance of 'Austen's Women' is by the award-winning and critically-acclaimed touring group Dyad Productions.
In a solo performance of extraordinary virtuosity, using only Austen’s words, actor Rebecca Vaughan answers this question by boldly revisiting the most rewarding moments from all six major novels, including 'Pride & Prejudice', 'Sense & Sensibility' and 'Emma' - plus those in lesser-known works such as Austen’s 'Juvenilia' and the unfinished 'Sanditon'. This is first in the trilogy of plays geared toward the leaving certificate syllabus.
Tickets are on sale for each event, however, a bundle package priced at €35 to attend all events is also available - a saving of €15 on all elements of the programme .
