Nathan Carter headlines the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival this September

Ireland’s top country music star Nathan Carter is to top the bill at this year’s Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival - the star will launch the annual festival on September 2nd-3rd along with Derek Ryan in what will be one of the biggest country music events in Clare this year.

Supporting Derek Ryan on the Friday, September 2nd will be Lisdoonvarna regulars Outadiesel whilst Alan Kelly and Blue Ridge Country will be the support acts for Nathan Carter on Friday, September 3rd.

The vintage festival is now 160 years old and still going from strength to strength with over 60,000 people attending last year. Part of its charm is the friendly atmosphere in the town with people aged from 18 to 90 all mixing together.

This year the event runs for over five weeks, from September 2nd until October 9th and includes a great line up of entertainment, with a hen and stag party weekend on September 9th-11th, three festival dance weekends on September 17-19th, September 25th-27th and October 1st-3rd and The Outing LGBT weekend closing the festival on October 7th-9th.

Music and dancing takes place in many venues around town from 12 midday to the small hours of the morning. Lisdoonvarna regular Muriel O’Connor will perform at the Royal Spa hotel every weekend in September while Finbarr Dennehy, Tommy O’Flaherty and Declan Aungier will top the bill at the Rathbaun Hotel.

The popular tea dances at the historic Spa Wells will take place between 12 and 2pm each day, with music by Larry McEvoy.
