The Joseph Burke Memorial Walk takes place in Marlfield on this Saturday afternoon, July 14, commencing at 2pm.
The walk starts from the gates of St. Patrick’s Chapel and covers the route of the Heritage Trail.
The theme of this year’s walk is the Great Famine of 1845 to 1847 and the guest speaker is the Deputy Mayor of Clonmel Borough District, Councillor Martin Lonergan.
Cllr. Lonergan will dedicate the final sign in the Heritage Trail series and it is also fitting that his talk will be about An Gorta Mór (the Great Famine).
Local historian Dr. Sean O'Donnell will also give a short talk on the Bagwell family and their place in the lives and history of Marlfield and Clonmel.
Afterwards there will be tea, coffee and treats in the Marlfield GAA clubhouse. The walk will be on hard road surfaces and suitable footwear is advised.
