A ‘great night of card-playing in great company’ is how one participant described the Skeheenarinky School Gala Weekend cards on Friday night. The evening was organised by the Parents’ Association at Jacksons Pub (by kind permission of Mick and Mary Kennedy) and was a great success. A respectable eleven tables of six sat down to play and greatly enjoyed themselves. Full report next week.

Karol and Ed thank everyone who came to the coffee morning last Saturday, or contributed in any way – either through baking, contribution to funds , or working on the morning. Very special thanks to some people who did all three! And a special mention to our kind neighbours and Kilbehenny Community Centre who helped out with seats etc., and the usual friend who looked after the transport side of things! The baking was exceptional! It was terrific seeing so many neighbours and friends chatting and having a grand old time together and relishing the fine cakes, buns, pies, and tarts, all of which had been donated. E470 was generously contributed by almost eighty visitors, and all will go to the Parents’ Association Gala Weekend funds. Sincere thanks to everyone.

Once again, the Skeheenarinky National School Gala Day on Sunday was a huge success. The crowds came out in force to enjoy the activities, to savour the afternoon, and to support the Parents’ Association. Well done to everyone concerned. The weather was perfect, the planning - as usual - was meticulous, and the music and the atmosphere were perfect. As always, the school grounds were manicured and faultless. Great to see such support for this wonderful school. The Chairman, Sean Landers, is compiling a report which will be included next week.

It is always a pleasure to highlight the efforts being made by local entrepreneurs in starting up new businesses, especially in these difficult times. Li’L Pads is a new undertaking started up recently by Tim Cleary of Coolagaranroe making children’s high quality furniture. Tim’s website is worth a visit.

We forgot to mention Kay Curtin’s Birthday last week. Hardly seems possible that she is old enough to be celebrating such a significant birthday, and she running mini-marathons as well. Belated Happy Birthday, Kay!

Congratulations to the Board of Management, the principal, the teachers and other staff, pupils, and the Parents Association on another great year at Skeheenarinky School. A lot of work goes into running a successful school, and this is just to let all concerned know that their efforts are very much recognised and appreciated in the community. To the students who are leaving for secondary school, we wish you well and know that you have been prepared in primary education in a way that cannot be surpassed. We were all so proud this year when you took first prize in South Tipp History project competition. The school also boasts many great young sportsmen and sportswomen and this is a wonderful reflection on those who give generously of their time in training the pupils throughout the year. To the young pupils who are planning to come to the school in September - congratulations, your parents have made a great choice!

Items for inclusion in these notes should be sent to or hand a note to Ed by 11.30 on Monday prior to publication.
