EIGSE Sheamais Ui Mhaolchathaigh

EIGSE Sheamais Ui Mhaolchathaigh

On Friday, July 8, in Newcastle, Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú will officially launch Éigse Shéamais Uí Mhaolchathaigh. This is a celebration of the life and literary work of Mr. Ó Maolchathaigh who lived in Croan, Newcastle at the end of the 19th century.

His biography ‘An Gleann agus a raibh ann’ is a very important work in that it depicts life around Newcastle and Goatenbridge at that time. The Irish Dialect in the book is of particular interest. There will be lectures on same, also on the musical heritage of the Suir Valley. Along with lectures there will be walks, trad music and dancing displays and ‘spraoi’. The Éigse is being organised with the assistance of Foras na Gaeilge, Newcastle Muintir na Tíre, and Oidhreacht An Chaisleáin Nua. For further details, or to register for any part of the Éigse, please contact Helen McGrath 087-2405061 or e-mail helenmcgrath57
