Peaks Mountaineering Club

The clocks have changed and winter has officially arrived with the dark evenings and weather mood swings. All club members should pack their head torch with a new battery and put a spare pair of gloves and socks in their backpack. Conditions on the mountains can rapidly deteriorate and what started as a pleasant day can rapidly become a challenge for the best equipped. Any senior club member will advise you on appropriate gear and food for an enjoyable day on our lovely mountains no matter what mother nature serves as the weather menu. The hardy folk in the Peaks Club were busy last weekend in the Mourne Mountains. The calendar of events is filling nicely and the first away walk of the new meets list is in the Blackstairs. This walk takes place on Sunday, 18th November and all the details are on the notice board in Eldon’s. The Christmas party has been booked in Raheen House for 1st December and make the arrangements for a great night when our fit and energetic members take to the floor in their party gear. The club membership dues can be posted to club treasurer Martin Coghlan at Robin Hill, Glenacurra, Carrick-on-Suir as the club will not take uninsured persons on the regular walks. Next week the club walks the Galtees with Ray Prendergast leading the 10am walk. The noon walk is led by Justin McCarthy, assisted by Sean Brackett and Nora Phelan. Both walks leave from Eldon’s and will pick up at Morrison’s Garage in Cahir.
