Last week’s players of the week included: Under 6’s Luke Purcell, Under 8 Girls Milly Cussens and Under 10’s Dylan Browne. Well done to all three players. Keep up the practising! This week the mini-stars who stood out were Under 6’s- Shane Ryan, Under 8 Girls- Molly Purcell, Under 8 Boys- Sammy Lewis and Under 10’s- Kevin Burke. Kevin was really hard-working at training and in the game he showed beautiful skills, especially ball-control and striking. He finished the game with an excellent goal. All the Under 10 players are getting better and better and looking forward to their blitz in Clerihan on June 30. Speaking of blitzes, the Under 8 trainers and players were very grateful to be invited to play in the David Boland Memorial Blitz recently in Moyle Rovers.

An event that the young hurlers of Ardfinnan and Grange schools are really looking forward to is the blitz for the inaugural Willie Condon Cup, which will be played for on June 25. The late Willie was highly thought of as a person and as a hurler with Ballybacon/Grange. His grandson Conor Gallagher and nephew John Condon are especially looking forward to the games. Results to follow next week!

In the past year the ‘Historic Graves Project’ has helped local community groups survey 6734 graves in 79 graveyards, recording not only the names, locations and inscriptions on those headstones, but also recording local stories from local people about their local cemeteries. As part of this exciting project, the Knockmealdown Active steering committee, in partnership with the local communities living along the length of the Knockmealdown mountain range, hopes to train local volunteers on how to record the information contained within their local historic graveyards. If you think you might be interested in this very worthwhile and rewarding exercise please send a text message with your name, contact details and parish area to 0868119571 and we will contact you as soon as possible. If you want more information about the project, check out historicgraves.ie on the internet.
