We extend sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Canon Thomas Nugent, The Presbytery, Lismore, whose death occurred recently. Canon Nugent was a native of Touraneena and since his ordination in 1954, worked tirelessly in his vocation to assist those both in his parishes and beyond. We extend sincere sympathy to his brother Eddie, sister in law Susan, nephew and nieces. May he rest in peace.


Many congratulations to Marie Cliffe, the new proprietor of Siobhan’s Hair Salon, Mary Street, Dungarvan. Marie is a very talented hairdresser that has worked in the industry for many years and in these economic times, it is great to see such entrepreneurial spirit in one of our locals. Marie is a native of Touraneena and is daughter of Mossie and Teresa Cliffe. We wish all the very best to Marie in her new venture.

Congratulations to Alice Marion Phelan, Portlaw, who celebrates her 30th birthday this week. Alice Marion has returned from Australia to celebrate her birthday with family and friends. Alice Marion is granddaughter of Alice Burke and the late Ned Burke, Touraneena.

St Patrick’s Day

Blessing of the Shamrock and St. Patrick’s Day Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Touraneena at 11.15am this Thursday. Welcome to all visitors and those returning home to the Parish for St. Patrick’s Day.

Parades are being held in many locations throughout the county and we hope this year that the weather will hold good for the celebrations.

Table Quiz

Reminder that the Table Quiz in Hanrahan’s Bar, Ballinamult, in aid of funding for the Special Olympics is being held on Friday week, March 25, commencing at 9pm. Tables of four are €20.

Lourdes Fund

On Saturday, March 19, Tina Condon, Boolavounteen, Ballinamult, will host an “Afternoon Tea” fundraising event in aid of the Lourdes Volunteer fund. Tea and confectionery will be served from 2pm to 5pm and all who attend will be entered in a prize draw for some lovely prizes. All are welcome.


We extend the very best wishes to Maureen Ryan, Knockalisheen, Ballymacarbry, who recently retired from her role as post woman. Maureen worked for many years as postwoman and made firm friends along her route. Maureen’s daily visits will be missed by many and we take this opportunity to wish Maureen many more years of good health and happy retirement.
