Local clubs provide a recreational and social safe place for young people in the community to meet. Youth clubs are also a location for young people to develop new skills and take part in many activities such as variety shows, debating, quizzes and regional events etc. Clubs can be junior (eight to 12 years) or senior (13 to 17 years) or a parish can have two clubs running locally. Tipperary regional youth service provides the training and support to voluntary leaders to run the club and also organise the insurance and events. Firstly a local group of volunteers needs to be set up from around the parish. Names can be given to Strappes shop locally. Anyone over 18 can get involved in the club. All leaders receive child protection training and screening. Clubs are usually run weekly and volunteers do duty on a rota basis. Any question please contact Breda McCarthy, Tipperary Regional Youth Service 062 52604.
The recent death of Billy Tuohy, Knockroe, Golden, evoked deep sympathy in the parish. Billy was a true local man who was born, raised, worked and in turn raised his own family in Golden. He is greatly missed by his wife Margaret, daughter Mai, sons Liam and Gerard, brother, sisters in law, son in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. May he rest in peace.
