Kilsheelan Kilcash

Ballypatrick Sportsfield is the venue for the Ballypatrick-Kilcash-Killurney-Kilsheelan family fun day on Sunday, June 23, afromt 2pm. The day promises an action packed afternoon of events and shows for all ages. Our new events this year include an art competition based on the Butler trail. We invite children from national schools in the parish to submit a drawing/painting with a medieval theme. Details of the competition were circulated to all schools during the week. There will be a floral arrangement competition plus a talk on gardening.

Soccer players are invited to test their goal shooting skills in the penalty shoot out, and for hurling enthusiasts we have the ball in the churn competition. Due to popular demand we are calling on all teddy bear owners to dress up their favourite teddy for this year’s best dressed teddy bear competition, so give your teddy day out.

Our athletics include races for boys and girls U/6/8/10/12/14 plus a host of novelty events, including sack races, and three-legged races. Other events include a perfume competition, guess the weight of the cake and the raffle prize is a weekend away for two. Admission free.

Friday, June 14, we hold our annual sponsored 5 Mile Walk in aid of hall funds. Your support can be shown by walking and raising some sponsorship or be sponsoring a walker. Sponsorship cards are available from any committee member or through Kilcash N.S. The walk will get underway at 7.30pm.

Ballot papers, together with a letter explaining the election process, are being distributed to every house in the parish. Please take a few minutes to vote for members from your own area and place your vote in box designated in either Kilsheelan, Kilcash or Ferryhouse churches or drop into letterbox in Parochial house before June 24.

The Intermediate hurlers had to give best to Arravale Rovers in the third round of the County championship. Tickets for the Race Night on June 30 are on sale, €10. Pride of place this week goes to the U14 football team who won the County Final in the “C” competition with a comprehensive victory over Solohead on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-0. This was a good, all round performance by a committed team and we congratulate them. Kilcash NS took home the Johnny Cummins Cup following a recent football blitz in Cahir.

A meeting will take place in Killurney Hall on Monday, June 17, at 7.30pm to discuss the upkeep of the old graveyard. All welcome.
