The Senior Football team are through to the South Semi Final which will be played in Cloneen next Saturday, August 24. It’s great to see the team back striving for honours and would encourage a large crowd to go along to lend them your vocal support. This team have put in great commitment to training and we wish them well.

The Minor Hurlers had a good win over Mullinahone on a scoreline of 2-19 to 3-14 in the second round of the championship.

The Score Prediction, following update of Aga Khan Trophy, sees Keith Madigan’s advantage reduced to the minimum but there are many others who could still make the winners enclosure.

We congratulate all our players who received their Leaving Cert results during the week and wish them every success in their chosen career path.

The U12s travelled to Cahir to play Mullinahone in the South Final of the Division 2 End Games Qualifiers. Kilsheelan had the first attack but midfielder Cathal Kelly’s shot was wide. Mullinahone knocked over two frees from distance before finding the net. Full forward Jason Madigan’s hard work was rewarded with a goal which was almost immediately cancelled out. Half forward Adam Quigley and Madigan pointed to reduce arrears, but a very physically strong Mullinahone team took advantage of Kilsheelan’s hesitation to score another 1-1 before the break.

Kilsheelan needed to start the second half strongly and did so with two points from the industrious Cathal Kelly. Mullinahone though are no pushovers and scored two points of their own. Kelly pointed again but Mullinahone rattled off two more goals to lead by 5-5 to 1-5 and leaving a four goal mountain to climb. Kilsheelan went doggedly about their tasks, firstly Adam Quigley having a goal bound free saved on the line. Kilsheelan then won another free close to goal and it was Sean Freaney’s turn to go for goal. His shot came off the crossbar and down at the goal line. It was not clear whether the ball actually crossed the line or not but Jack O’Gorman made sure just in case. Madigan rasped another goal at the end of a great team move and there was a chink of light for Kilsheelan. Mullinahone got yet another goal to effectively end the contest, but the scoring was not over yet. Kelly burst through to boot the ball into the net but Mullinahone finished the match the stronger scoring a further 1-1. The panel for the game was Conor Grant, John Carroll, Sean Allison, Thomas Morrissey, Jack O’Loughlin, Billy Murphy, Jack O’Gorman, Billy O’Connor, Cathal Kelly, Sean Freaney, Ben O’Connell, Jason Madigan and Adam Quigley.

The U12s in Group 2 will play Ballybacon next Sunday at noon in Goatenbridge while the Group 4 team will be in action against Fr Sheehy’s in Clogheen at 12pm next Saturday. The U16s have a busy schedule with three away games to Cahir on Saturday at 12pm, Ballyneale on Monday 26th at 7pm and Anner Gaels on Monday, September 2, at 7pm.

A few seasons have gone by since the Club last hosted an Open Tournament. On Sunday, September 1, the Club will hold an American style tournament catering for individual players of varied grades and standards. We look forward to a good response from all club members and we also invite players from our neighbouring Clubs to be involved. It is hoped to make the day a member family day with some special treats for the small ones.

Parish Scouts

The group will re-open on Monday, September 2, for Beavers (six to nine years) from 6pm to 7pm and Cubs (nine to 11 yesrs) from 7pm to 8.30pm. The registration night for all four sections will take place on Thursday, September 5, from 7pm to 8pm. A parent from each family, whether a new or existing member, will need to attend, to register their child or children, and pay their annual registration fee which includes insurance cover. No child will be able to attend meetings or any event until registered. The Group subsidises each child with the second and third child in a family only costing €30 and €20 per annum. If necessary, payment can be made in instalments up to the end of October. We are glad to say that we have had a good response for the past two years and hope for the same again this year.
