There are 50 showing classes listed for horses and ponies, with classes for ridden and led horses, working hunters, brood mares and foals also ridden, lead rein, led and working hunter ponies and miniature horses.

This year’s show will again feature the Coolmore €1,100 Thoroughbred Broodmare class for broodmares, likely to produce a racehorse, with or without a foal to be judged on conformation alone. There will also be two foal classes for the progeny of the mare entered in the broodmare class. Seven classes for miniature horses are also listed in the prize schedule. There will be a new class for coloured horses and best ridden cob. The horse and pony classes include many I.S.A. and I.P.S. qualifiers for All-Ireland finals, to be judged at various venues later this year.

The horse jumping programme will feature a 4 year-old Jumping Performance Class, a €2,500 Munster Grand Prix, two graded events and an amateur competition for A and AA competitors. There will be seven pony jumping competitions. Further information about the pony jumping events may be obtained from Gail Long at 052-6125113 (after 6pm). Entries for the Performance class must be made to the Show Secretary (at St. Declan’s, Western Road, Clonmel 052-6121413) by 27th June. Entries for all other jumping events will be taken on show day.

41 classes are listed in the Home Crafts, Home Baking and Preserves section of Clonmel Show.

There are 39 classes listed in the Flower Show schedule, including classes for flower and vegetable photography, GIY and children’s classes. Information for these classes is available from either Paddy O’Keeffe at Melville Lodge, Clonmel or Mildred Stokes at Killurney, Ballypatrick, Clonmel (052-6133155). Entries will be taken up to Friday, July 1st.

Sheep classes number 55 with classes for Texels, Suffolks, Belclares, Vendeen, Rouge De L’Quests, Charolais, Beltex, Zwartbles, Jacobs, Lleyns and Scotch Blackface. There are five commercial sheep classes including a pet lamb class. The Lleyn and Zwartble breeds will have their All-Ireland championships at Clonmel Show this year. Thirty six cattle classes, plus overall dairy and beef championships, are listed in the schedule. There will be classes for Freisians, Shorthorns, Herefords, Belgian Blue, Limousin, Simmentals, Charolais and non-pedigree cattle. There will be a special young handlers’ class, a new class for local exhibitors and two classes for rare breeds of cattle. An adult painting class, with a prize fund of €250, will once again be staged at the Show this year. This class is open to over 18 year-olds working with any painting medium. The theme is open. The painting should be mounted, framed and not greater than 24”x 18”. Further details are available from Mary Quinlan at 052-6136186. This year there will be two poultry classes, for water fowl and soft feathered breed.

Entries for all horse, pony, cattle, sheep, poultry, home industries and art must be sent to the Show Secretary, St. Declan’s, Western Road, Clonmel by Thursday, 23rd June.

The Show features a large range of trade stands, covering most aspects of the home, as well as food and agriculture. The large attendance provides a captive audience for intending stall-holders and much business is traditionally transacted on the show day, and good contacts made.
