Tidy Towns

Ardfinnan Tidy Towns are very pleased with the feed back we are getting about the work being carried out this year and would like to say thank you and there is more to come. We see Castleview Residents Committee have put up their hanging baskets and replanted all their pots and are doing their bit again this year. It is great to see residents making a great effort around the community and if we can help anyone please let us know. We are also glad that some people took our advice and went down to see the work carried out in the ball alley by members of our community council and we even had a complaint from one or two teenagers that they had to wait to play ball because there was so many using it during the week. It is also great to see our local tennis courts being used and hopefully this will continue for the summer.

Ardfinnan Tidy Towns facebook page is now up and running and can be found by searching Ardfinnan tidy towns on facebook and have a look at past and present projects that have been done over the years. Once again keep up the great work.

Ardfinnan GAA

Our Senior team were out in championship on Sunday last in Cahir. Their opponents were old rivals Clonmel Commercials. We started very well and were on top for most of the first half with Daniel O’Regan in particular creating lots of problems for the Commercials defence. After 26 minutes we lead 0-4 points to nil and looked to be in a very strong position. The game changed dramatically in the next 4 mins plus injury time when the Clonmel side found their range and went into the break 5 points to 4 ahead.

In the second half we continued to struggle in the difficult conditions and could not get into any kind of rhythm. Commercials ran out winners 0-11 to 0-7.

Under 14s make it 3 in a row

All roads led to Marlfield on Wednesday where Ardfinnan played Ballingarry in the Kevin O’Leary South under 14 B Football Final. The field was in great shape and conditions were perfect for a good entertaining game of football. Ardfinnan played in the Ballybacon colours and made no mistake in gaining their third South under 14 B Title in a row, winning 2-12 to 1-10, having led 2-5 to 0-4 at half time.

Ardfinnan were an extremely well balanced team, our Goal Keeper and defence were well organised and many attacks came from their intelligent use of the ball as we pressed forward from our back line, our midfield of Conor Fogarty and Gavin Whelan were terrific throughout the game and every forward scored which is a sure sign of a good team. There was great excitement as Captain Padraig Cunningham accepted the Shield from Bord Chairman Martin Cody and Padraig gave a rousing speech to the large crowd of supporters present. Well done to all the Players and Management Team of Liam Myles, Liam Barrett, Stephen Landy, Diarmuid Boyle and Christopher Ryan.

The under 14s were out again in the County Semi Final on Saturday in Dundrum against Inane Rovers. We played very well on the day and ran out comfortable winners 3-11 to 0-3. This now puts us into the County Final which is down to be played next weekend. We have won 3 south titles in a row and have failed at this hurdle in the past two years, so hopefully if we can again play to our best and lady luck is on our side we may be able to bring county honours back to the village next weekend. Don’t forget to put out your flags and colours and show support for these young lads who have done so well this year.
