The organisers of the Bus to Knock Shrine on Saturday last wish to thank all those who travelled on the day. Thanks also to Paddy the bus driver with Gene Walsh buses, who as always was most helpful and courteous on the bus. It was a beautiful day for the trip and enjoyed by all.

All-Ireland semi-final tickets: Tickets for the All-Ireland hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Kilkenny in Croke Park will be given out in the complex on Thursday night next at 8.30pm approximately.

Junior A Football Championship: The junior footballers played their final game in the league stages of the championship against Ardfinnan on Thursday night last, August 9, in Clogheen. After a tight first half, the teams were level on the score of Newcastle 0-5, Ardfinnan 1-2. In the second half, however, Newcastle was the dominant team and ran out deserving winners on the score of 2-12 to 1-4. Team: Darren Goonan, Niall Morrissey, Tomás O’Dwyer, Emmet Prendergast, Will Kennedy, Shane Hickey, Liam Devaney, Diarmuid Devaney (1-0), Conor Grant (0-1), Daniel Kennedy (0-2), Michael Kennedy (0-2), Barry Hickey (0-2), Andrew Fitzpatrick (0-1), Frank Hallinan (0-1), James Lonergan. Subs were James Fitzpatrick for Liam Devaney, Brian Sweeney (1-2) for James Lonergan, Cormac O’Flynn (0-1) for Frank Hallinan, Brian Hyland for Will Kennedy and John McCarra for Conor Grant.

The team has now qualified for the semi-final of the junior A football championship.

Cúl Camp: The Newcastle GAA Club Kellogg’s Cúl Camp was held last week. Over 50 children attended and thoroughly enjoyed all the drills and training. On Thursday, Tipperary hurler Pádraig Maher visited the camp, which was a big highlight for the children. They also received a visit from Kilsheelan’s Bill Maher, captain of the Tipperary minor hurlers and Munster and All-Ireland medallist in minor football. A big thank you to John Cummins and all the coaches for their efforts during the week. The club would also like to thank the parents who gave their time to be present during the days.

County Draw: Congratulations to Séamus and Kathleen McGrath on their win in the August County Board Draw. It is hoped that the September draw will be held in Newcastle.

Huge congratulations go to our dancers who had double success and were crowned Munster Champions in the Senior Set and Senior 8 Hand Céilí competitions at Fleadh Cheoil Na Mumhan in Dungarvan last weekend.

The girls will now go on to represent Caisleán Nua at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Cavan this August.

The eight dancers were Sinead Grant, Rosie McCarra, Treasa McGrath, Shauna Ryan, Ciara Gough, Veronica McNamara, Leah Condon and Catherine Ryan.

Congratulations also to their dancing teacher Kathy McGrath who’s hard work with the girls was very evident from their outstanding performance.

We would also like to say very well done to our groups who competed in the 15 to 18 and Under 12 age groups who danced extremely well and who done the club very proud. A very big thank you to all those who came to support all of our dancers over the weekend.
