Johnny B & The Boogie Men, Fair Exchange, Modern Soul and The Waheys are among the music acts that will be performing at the upcoming Fair of Cahir.

Posters for the three-day festival will be erected around Cahir soon.

The Fair committee includes Chairman Patrick O’Donovan, Treasurer Henry Reidy, Secretary Brian Dolan, Music Coordinator Jason Maher and Event Manager Maria Taylor.

You can Fair’s Crazy Boat Race’ that takes place the Sunday of the Fair. And local businesses are urged to choose a young lady to represent them in the Queen of the Fair Competition.

Entry forms for both contests are available at The Heritage in the Square.

Bingo news

Cahir Bingo regular Mrs Josie Quinlan celebrated her 100th birthday last Thursday and will get a free bingo book every week from now on.

Cahir Bingo Chairperson, Tina Reilly presented Josie with a bouquet of flowers to mark the special occasion. Everyone at bingo wishes her all the best for the future and hopes she is very lucky.

Cahir Bingo takes place on Tuesdays at 8.30pm in Cahir Community Hall throughout the year. It is a social evening and a chance to win some money. It is run by volunteers and all profits are donated locally. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Community Lotto

The jackpot prize wasn’t won in Cahir Community Lotto’s draw last week, was witnessed by Mary Walsh.

Numbers drawn were 5, 11, 29 and 31. Four lucky dip winners won €25 each.

They were Eamonn Elliott, Beechpark, Cahir; C, B & T, Cahir; Eileen O’Neill, Ardfinnan and Deb and Lucy, C/o Ladrigans, Cahir. Congratulations to all.

Next draw takes place today, Wednesday, July 31 in Cahir Day Care Centre at 12 noon.

The jackpot prize will be €4,800. Tickets are available in local shops and also at the Enterprise Centre.

Beech Park news

Winners of the 50/50 draw last month were: Bridget Saunders, Mai Lonergan, Sylvia McCormack and Josie Sullivan.

The community thanks all, who participate in this fund-raising draw.

Tidy Towns news

Cahir Tidy Towns thank all who supported its church gate collection last weekend and volunteered to collect for the cause.

The Committee also thanks all who continue to litter pick on Sunday mornings.

The Committee was delighted to welcome baby Aoife Smyth last Wednesday evening and Sinead assures the group she will be back on the beat very soon.

These coming weeks are very important to have the town looking well as there are many visitors around the town.

Actor Gabriel Byrne passed through last week and had his tea in Cahir House Hotel and adjourned to Skelly’s Sweet Emporium to buy some sweets.

Meanwhile, judging will commence this week for the local awards. The results will be announced on Friday, September 13. The Tidy Towns group meets on Wednesdays at 7pm.

Bric-a-brac sale

A bric-a-brac and cake sale will take place in Cahir Community Hall on Sunday 25th August from 1pm to 4.30pm in aid of Cahir Community Hall and St. Mary’s Church.

Any bric-a-brac can be brought to the Hall on Saturday, August 24 from 2pm-5pm and baked products can be delivered on Sunday from 11am

There will also be a raffle and lots of delicious home baked cakes.

Cahir Park AFC

The Final and Shield Final of Cahir Park Pub League takes place today (Wednesday) from 7:15pm. 
The Club’s FAI Summer Soccer School runs from August 12 to 16. There are very little places remaining but you can book online at  

Fitkids Active Fun Summer Camp for children aged 4-10 years will take place from Wednesday, August 21 to Friday, August 23 from 10am to 12pm daily. Call (052) 7443850 for further details.
