Intermediate Hurling

We travelled to Cahir on Friday night to take on St. Marys in our first match in this year’s Championship. We got off to a good start aided with the wind and were ahead at half time on a score of eleven points to six. We added three further points after the start of second half before Brendan Cummins made the long journey from his own goal to score the only goal of match for us with an unstoppable 20metre shot from a free into St Marys net. We now led by 9 points and after fifteen minutes of the second half and ran out winners in end on final score of 1-33 to 0-13. It was a good display overall and will boost confidence with five more games left in group stages.

We wish Tom Kirwan and Tipperary Minor hurlers success in first game in Munster Championship against Kerry in coming week and also to Mike Hogan on Divisional under 15 hurling team. Our Monthly Committee Meeting will take place in Goatenbridge this Thursday night where New Tipperary Draw will begin. This is 25th year of our Club supporting this draw and many changes have taken place over years. There are twenty five new cars to be won with further twenty five prizes of 500.00 cash each month. The weekly lotto first prize is 1000.00 euro each week. If there is no outright winner each week this will be drawn and divided into 5 prizes of 200.00 euro each week. First Draw will take place on Friday night, May 18 and we thank all our supporters in this Draw over past 24 years and wish them success in this new Draw.

Despite the bad weather the young boys and girls of the area have been keeping up their attendance at Tuesday night’s training sessions. Fair play to all of them .It’s very important for the younger ones to dress warmly these evenings and remember it’s o.k. to miss a session if the weather is poor... just get out and hurl the next day you get a chance.... and the next!

We would appeal at this stage to Parents who have not registered their children to do so as soon as possible. Having complete player contact details is vital for Webtexting, for contacting in the case of emergency, etc. it’s also compulsory to register all players with G.A.A. head office!

Recent players of the week include Cathal Bourke, Ben Doyle and young Liam English, who was very happy joining his friends at Hurling training last week.

The Fianna Fáil National Collection will be taken up at all Masses next weekend, 5 and 6 May. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Please take note that anyone/community organisation etc. who would like to have notes included in the Goatenbridge section are asked to send them via e-mail to murtylonergan@eircom.net / phone 087 6497083 on or before 4pm on the SUNDAY prior to publication!
