U13 SFAI CUP - CLERIHAN 3 CLONMEL TOWN 2 (AET). A thrilling third round National Cup tie in Clerihan on Saturday ended in favour of the home side. Clerihan applied the early pressure and were rewarded on 10 minutes when Sean Cotter headed a corner to the net. Rian Quigley extended the lead with a free-kick to leave the home side 2- 0 at the interval. Clonmel Town responded in fine style on the resumption and Jake Guinan reduced the deficit when he flicked a good cross to the net. With time running out, Jake pounced on a loose ball and scored to send the game to extra-time. With virtually the last kick of the game Rian Quigley’s free-kick came back off the crossbar and Donal McCabe headed home the winner. The reward for Clerihan is another home tie against North End with the winners progressing to the last 32. Both teams deserve great credit for the level of skill on display and their coaches should be complimented on the levels of fitness necessary to keep going for 80 minutes.
