Ballyporeen advanced to the south semi final of the u21 football A championship last weekend. After a thrilling game against Killenaule on Friday evening under lights in Newcastle. Both teams finished level. But it would be Ballyporeen who would qualify due to a better score difference in the group. It was a pity more people weren’t there to see these two sides serve up a wonderful hour of free flowing football. This was down to both teams who concentrated totally on playing the game and great credit must go to the referee Dereck O’Mahony who handled the game very well. Ballyporeen got off to a poor start conceding two early goals, however they recovered well to lead at half time by 0-9 to 2-2. The second half was a great battle with both sides exchanging points. Ballyporeen were trailing by two points with five minutes remaining but credit to the lads as they came back and levelled the score. It was down to the [ice cool] Danny Barrett who with the last kick of the game from a free forty five meters out sent over a great point to level the match 0-12 to 2-6. We now play favourites for the county Ardfinnan in the south semi final, check press for details. Panel: M,Sweeney, W,English, B,Breedy, E,Morrissey. M,O’Neil. J,Carey, T,Sweeney. J O’Callaghan.
