Congratulations to the Newcastle Senior Ladies Figure and Set dancers who won the Munster Fleadh competitions in Dungarvan recently. They will now be competing at the All Ireland Fleadh which is taking place in Cavan in mid-August. As we congratulate the girls: Catherine Ryan, Sinead Grant, Rosie McCarra, Treasa McGrath, Shauna Ryan, Leah Condon, Ciara Geoff and Veronica McNamara, we also congratulate their teacher Kathy McGrath, and we wish them continued success in Cavan.


Car Presentation

The presentation of the car won in the County Board Draw to the McGrath family was cancelled on Friday night last as the representatives of the county board were unable to attend. It has also been confirmed that the September draw will be held in Newcastle.

Raft Race

The GAA club, along with the Naíonra, will hold a raft race on Saturday, September 15. More details of the event will be available shortly.

Junior A Football Championship

The junior footballers received a walkover form Clonmel Óg last Saturday night, July 28. This means that there is one group match remaining against Ardfinnan.

Committee Meeting

The next meeting of the committee will be held on Wednesday night, August 8, at 8.30p.m. Please note the change of date.

Cúl Camp

Newcastle GAA Club will host the Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp from the August 6 to 10 in the GAA grounds. To register contact Juvenile secretary club, Caroline Kelly as soon as possible. Registration fee is €55 for the first child, €45 for the second child and €40 each for subsequent children from the same family.

Juvenile Notes

The Under 14 hurlers, in combination with Fr Sheehy’s, have played two matches in the past week against St. Patricks and Clerihan, winning one and losing the second by a narrow margin. The Newcastle players involved were Jamie Grant, Oisín O’Dwyer, Maitiú McGrath, Darragh Condon, Darragh O’Flynn, George Forbes, Pádraig O’Loughlin, Brandon Hackett, Eoin Keating and Aaron Kiely. The Under 12 hurlers played a number of hurling games in the last few weeks but were not yet successful. The players involved were Pádraig O’Loughlin, David Kelly, Eoin O’Keeffe, Dane O’Sullivan, Feidhlim Ryder, Tadhg Devaney, Alice Ryan, Yvonne Clancy, Ryan McCullagh, Aaron O’Neill, Jason O’Donnell, Janis Sturkina, Jack Rice Fitzpatrick, Ciarán O’Loughlin and Diarmuid Keating. The Under 12 footballers travelled to Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Tuesday, July 24, to take part in the Provincial Activity Days blitz. They played three games, resulting in one win, one draw and one loss. Well done to all the players and the coaches who attended, Michael Hally, Oliver Kelly, Mark Heffernan and Christine O’Loughlin. The Under 10’s took part in a two game hurling blitz in Clonmel Óg grounds on July 28, winning both games. The team was Jack Rice Fitzpatrick, Ciarán O’Loughlin, Yvonne Clancy, Alice Ryan, Jack Kelly, Max Zimmerman, Stephen O’Connor, Conor Butler, Aaron O’Neill, Tom Ross and T. Carrigan.


Waterford and South Tipperary and Community Youth Services, WSTCYC, are in the process of setting up a new youth club for children aged between eight and 12 years in Newcastle! However, this is only possible with the support of volunteers. No experience necessary. Free training and support will be given. Provided in a safe and accessible place for young people to meet and participate in various activities.
