Draíocht the traditional music, song and dance show is opening on Thursday July 21. Draíocht has been very successful performing in St. Paul’s Community Centre for the past four years and it looks like its set to continue. This show has received fantastic reviews from locals and tourists alike with many people returning to see the show a couple of times. Draíocht commences in St. Paul’s Community Centre Clogheen on Thursday, July 21, and continues every Thursday and Friday in July and August. Semi-Finals will take place in Nedeens Bar on July 23 next. The final will be on July 30 in Nedeens. There are a few places left for next Saturday night. The Irish Cancer Society says a big thank you to all who donated to their recent Church Gate Collection. The amount collected was E235.


Men and women fitness classes will be held in Ballyporeen, starting Tuesday, July 26, and July 28 from 7pm to 9.30pm. Classes include body conditioning, total body circuit class for men and woman. €10 for individual class, E6 classes for €50 (6 week period) or 12 classes for €80 (6 week period), personal training available €10 per session. A sponsored Jeep run in aid of St Theresa’s Hospital Clogheen will take place on Saturday 23rd July. The route will be, meeting at St Theresa’s Hospital Clogheen at 5.30pm and onto Ballylooby – Cahir – Burncourt – Ballyporeen and back to Clogheen. Come along and enjoy the day.


Pat and Maura O’Callaghan, Main St, Clogheen, will join 150 cyclists for a fundraiser cycle that will take place from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 with a stop off in Clogheen for refreshments.

With the ongoing difficulties parents and families of Down Syndrome have to cope with, the money raised will be of great benefit to parents, carers and SNA’s at home and in schools.

Our homecoming festival is fast approaching and plans are well underway to keep you entertained over the weekend. It takes place from Wednesday, July 27, to Monday, August 1.

Card players are catered for on Wednesday, July 27, with a 45 drive. We are also hosting a Puck Fáda competition for our under age players; under 10, 12,14 at 7.30pm.

Thursday July 28: Once again our Road Race takes place so all our local runners and walkers are welcome to participate. Prize for first local home.

Friday July 29: Car Treasure Hunt at 7.30pm. Followed by the highly successful Draiocht in the community centre. Later that night the Lucky Leprechaun is the place to be for the annual Drag Queen competition and Waxathon. This night proved to be full of surprises and great fun.

Saturday July 30:11am Kiddies Treasure Hunt; 2pm A new venture this year is our nature and leisure walk. We are surrounded by beautiful walks so come along and enjoy our local scenery; 7pm National Sheep race finals in the grounds of St. Pauls. Please note the change of date. Bookies on hand.

Sunday July 31: Gala family day in Fr. Sheehy GAA Park; 1.30pm fancy dress from Lios Mhurie to Park so get your floats and costumes ready. Tug-o-war, pillow fights, bottle stall, battle of the bars. Sports – Go-Kart racing, u 10 football match, over 40s football match, market stalls and more. 8pm Queen of the Vee. Monday, August 1: 2pm duck derby; 3pm Road Bowling Mount Anglesby to Graigue.

Tickets for Festival Hamper are on sale also Duck Derby. Please support our festival as this is our major fundraiser for the year. The centre provides the locality with facilities to hold events in our own area.

Vee Rovers FC are holding the Paddy McGrath Memorial Tournament in conjunction with the festival at Scart Park.
